A Swimwear 2011 Guide

Finding swimwear which fits and flatters can be a challenge. However, when it comes to dressing for the pool or beach, we particularly shouldn’t settle for attire which doesn’t do us justice. Why is it, that we spend hours – sometimes longer – trying on, shopping around and asking advice on our clothes but when it comes to that annual purchase of swimwear, it gets rushed? Are we scared to look at ourselves in those brightly lit, unflattering changing rooms?

There’s a lot to be taken into consideration, from body type to accessories. When it comes to what would suit your figure, then colours, pattern and shape must be taken into account. And on this note, are you looking for…

Swimwear for Broad Shoulders and Slim Hips?

There’s a bikini shape for everyone, whether it’s a low legged, high waisted number or teeny tiny. Stay away from halterneck swimwear, as this will only accentuate your shoulders. Also, if you’re on the busty side, halternecks can be very uncomfortable. As for balancing out your figure, shorts will make your hips look bigger – but be warned they’re really only for long legged ladies.

Swimwear for a Curvy Figure?

Low legged swimsuits can look fabulous on women with a more curvaceous figure. They’re very practical, too, by giving support and can also hide a larger tummy. Either choose a deep block colour or a large pattern. Imagine how fabulous you could look, for instance, in a royal blue swimsuit, white hat, blue, yellow and white sarong and a yellow bag…

Swimwear for a Straight Up and Down Figure?

If you’re boy-shaped, then you can wear any type of swimwear. However, to create some curves there are a couple of tricks. Halterneck tops will make your shoulders seem broader, but take care to ensure this is balanced out with briefs which tie at each side. As for patterns, go for detailing around the bust or a busy pattern.

Swimwear for Broad Hips and Small on Top?

There’s a great choice of gel-filled bikini tops now which will immediately create a more hour-glass figure. Go for high legged swimsuits or bikini bottoms – this will add length to your thigh. Stay away from side tie bikini bottoms as this will just accentuate your hips. Small patterns will also make you look bigger – so if you must wear it, wear it on your top half.
